The Grigoryan Brothers new release 'Distance' marks a departure from standard classical guitar repertoire, capturing all the spontaneity of their live performances. This, their fourth duo CD is infused with energy; showcasing a variety of genres, and as always, their technical prowess.

The title track Distance, by Leonard Grigoryan, alludes to the theme of geographical separation. This concept is underscored by the global locations of its composers: US Jazz legend Ralph Towner, William Lovelady is based in Oxfordshire, whilst jazz guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel hails from Austria and Paulo Bellinati from Brazil. Australian master composer Nigel Westlake evokes the majesty of Rajasthan in Shards of Jaisalmer.

In contrast, emotional proximity also plays its role – with parents Edward and Irina Grigoryan performing on this recording. Edward, also composer of the evocative 'Tian Shan', was the brothers’ guitar teacher. Melbourne’s exceptional musical fraternity is represented with compositions 'Mandalay to Melbourne' by Jeremy Alsop and 'Prayer Flags in Bright Wind' by Shaun Rigney.
